– – – – – – RCIA is for anyone who wishes to learn more about the Catholic faith and possibly join our Church family. Our sessions run from mid-September to a few weeks after Easter. We meet on Thursday evenings in the Media Room (in the basement of the Cathedral) – A native of Germany, David Jonies, concert organist based at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, is know for his “whirling virtuosity.” Known for his wide range of repertoire, Mr. Jonies was awarded the 1st prize at the 1999 Landau International Organ Competition. International concert appearances have included Notre Dame Cathedral in Parish, Westminster Abbey and the London Handel Festival in the U.K., the Pusan Bach Festival in South Korea, the Cathedral at Buejovice in the Czech Republic, the Bluval Music Festival and the Cathedrals of Bamberg, Mainz, Passau and Trier in Germany. In the United States, he has performed at Chicago’s Orchestra Hall with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, at the Pine Mountain Music Festival (Michigan), Piccolo Spoleto Festival (South Carolina), at the Cathedrals of Seattle (Washington), Helena (Montana), Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), Harford (Connecticut), Sioux City (Iowa), Milwaukee (Wisconsin), and recitals and workshops for the American Guild of Organists Chapters and Dioceses around the Midwest. He has been a featured artist for national conventions of the Organ Historical Society and the National Association for Pastoral Musicians. Prior to his appointment in Chicago, he held positions at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Parish in Escanaba, Westminster Cathedral in London and the Chapel Royal at Hampton Court Palace. – School Mass, public welcome. – Little Church focuses on a small project related to the Sunday Gospel. Little Church meets in the Bishops’ Room during the 10:30 a.m. Mass, Liturgy of the Word. During the collection, the children rejoin their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist and Concluding Rites. A Little Church family may also be invited to bring the gifts to the altar. – Ages 3 through grade 8 will meet in the hall for a snack and follow with class. The High School Class meets in the Media Room. – This group, open to anyone in our area, meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. to about 8 p.m. in the Media Room of the Cathedral. Weekly prayer meetings foster praise and worship of the Lord through songs, spontaneous prayer, Scripture readings, openness to the gifts of the Holy Spirit, teachings and intercession. Following regular meetings, prayer teams are available to pray with anyone who requests prayer for various needs. The group is under the pastoral guidance of Msgr.
