– The Cathedral Choir will sing Bach’s seldom-heard Mass (“Missa”) in F, BWV 233, joined by two horns, two oboes, bassoon, strings, organ and soloists. Several of his other instrumental and choral works will also be featured. Curiously, despite their name, the “Lutheran” Masses feature almost no Lutheran material: they are in Latin (rather than German) and are settings of the Roman Catholic Mass! Musically, they are almost entirely made up of movements from Bach’s Cantatas. Therefore, the beauty of these short Masses is that they represent Bach’s own choice of his finest Cantata movements!
